Let the Circus Begin

After much angst but also much excitement, my first book is out!

Nightvisions, The Magecraft Curses Book 1.

It’s a fairly bizarre feeling. On one hand I’m bubbling up with nervous excitement, but on the other I’m just sitting around thinking….what?? What just happened? What did I just do? Did anything actually happen?

Answer: Yes Maia. Something did happen. You published a book. Now get it together, sit down, and write the second one. Ha.

It’s certainly been a journey, not to mention a learning process, but if anything, I can’t wait to keep writing. (Truthfully, it’s because I have far too many people banging around in my head and need to get at least some of them out. I mean really, there are limits.)

I’ve already started work on book two and have more ideas than I know what to do with (which is a very good problem to have). The second stage of the journey is coming whether you’re ready or not.

In any case, as I said in the title….

Happy reading and let the circus begin!

Finally, on the obligatory self-promotional note….go buy the book! It’s new adult steampunk fantasy with a whole lot of magical shenanigans but also (I hope) a whole lot of heart.

Here’s the actual full book summary for those of you who are still reading this post.

Two reluctant seers.

One house of misfit mages.

One ambitious crown princess.

With the onset of a disturbing vision and their 20th birthday, twin seers Pyri and Rohin Rainecourt are thrust into the middle of a country in turmoil. As Lowair recovers from the Blue Plague and civil war looms on the horizon, the twins struggle to navigate between the opposing forces of the crown princess, the queen, and her most powerful minister. They find a brief respite in the house of their estranged uncle and the collection of rogue mages living there, but it quickly becomes apparent that the house is hiding as many secrets as Court.

But Court never rests. As the crown princess, queen, and minister fight for their version of Lowair’s future, it becomes impossible to determine who is in the right. Nevertheless, further visions force Pyri and Rohin to pick a side. But with the magecraft illness striking unexpectedly early and black and white becoming gray, they have underestimated what it will cost them.
